Your GP overdue report: a small task with an important impact
Published: 21 October 2026
A new Te Whatu Ora | Health New Zealand national directive will affect tamariki in the 24-month cohort who are enrolled in your practice and overdue for immunisations.
Tamariki who remain more than four weeks overdue may now be automatically referred to an outreach provider for follow-up. Returning your overdue report within the required timeframe helps ensure referrals are appropriate and based on the most up-to-date information available.
You may already have a plan in place with whānau, an upcoming appointment booked or there may be a clinical reason why vaccination is not currently indicated. The information you provide on the report helps ensure these tamariki are managed appropriately and are not referred unnecessarily.
While completing the report takes a small amount of time, it plays an important role in supporting continuity of care, avoiding duplicate follow-up and ensuring Te Whatu Ora has visibility of any management plan in place (where applicable).
If you need any assistance interpreting or returning your report, please reach out to Waikato immunisation improvement facilitator / coordinator, Pam Rudolph.
