Practical access support package
Published: 7 October 2026
Te Whatu Ora | Health New Zealand has launched a practical access support package, a national pilot running from 21 September to 31 December 2026 to reduce barriers whānau face accessing childhood immunisation.
Eligible whānau receive a $100 voucher (towards fuel or a car seat) to help get their tamariki (children) immunised before age two. Te Whatu Ora identifies eligible children and contacts parents/caregivers directly by SMS or email, and families arrange immunisation through their usual or preferred provider.
What it means for practices
Simply continue to assess, obtain informed consent, check the immunisation is due, vaccinate, and record the event in your PMS as usual. Timely and accurate recording is important, as it enables Te Whatu Ora to validate the voucher.
You are also encouraged to help families complete their e-form if they ask.
Please note only eligible whānau will be contacted.
Full details can be found in the information sheet.
